Life sure seems to add good timing to everything, Soon after I got the art done for the theater's new Rocky Horror Show Promotional Poster, I run into computer problems. While I was working on getting my laptop reformatted for the semester of college, and to clean it up since I had a dual boot OS running with an OS I haven't used in forever. I guess it doesn't help that I had forgotten how to reconfigure the wireless settings in the Linux partition. Well, while I was reinstalling Windows XP my primary comp suddenly went from the normal screen saver collage that is Google photo screen saver to Blue screen! After some wonderful hair raising moments I discovered that I have a memory problem, Windows detected it but to be sure about it I looked up info on running
memtest86+ which was thankfully on the install disk of my Ubuntu CD. I must of gotten lucky on my first try because after 20 minutes of running memtest 16 errors were discovered within that single chip alone. I spent the remaining 6 hours of that day running each chip of my memory in sets of 10 test passes to see if they too would fail.
I then decided why not just replace the memory and get myself something better since i was beginning to worry that the rest of my ram will fail along side the first. I dropped a good chunk of change down on a 4gb kit of Corsair Dominator. I chose this because I found out Corsair backs up all their products with a lifetime warranty. After waiting a good 4 days of aggrovation The replacement ram arrived! Upon installing the new Ram my system began to lock up on the quick boot memory test making it impossible for me to even reach the systems setup menu or a full bios post screen. Frustrated I worked down the possibilities, from the motherboard being the cause of the lockup down to one of the new ram chips I received was Defective!
Thus began the wonderful trek to get corsair technical service to respond and the wonderful world of shipping something via the US Mail service. Which by the way was a total pain in the ass. We got confirmation from Corsair the Friday before Labor day weekend, and low and behold every post office closed early at noon on Friday in Maryland to cut back on state expenses. I of course had class Friday and was ill informed of the early closings until 4 pm that day. I entertained the plot of mass destruction for a moment until I calmed down. It was not until early Saturday morning that we managed to get the ram on its way through the travesty that is the US postal service, thanks largely in part to Delaware not observing the notion to close early for the whole weekend.
So i've been without a working machine for a good two weeks now, My laptop is running but with limited software so most of what I can do is surf the web and play some old games when I get really bored. Thankfully I hatched a plot to trade in some xbox games for the new Batman game to help ease the boredom of the Labor day weekend. I will admit it was indeed a great game to play. I have not had that much fun with a game in a long time. Meanwhile As I had said earlier School is now back in session, and the joys it brings only fill my head with more annoyance. The campus is half a construction site and the other is a dwindling overpopulated mess. I can't wait for more people to drop out so parking can get better. But the Icing that takes the cake this time is just this past Friday my glasses broke. The bridge between both lenses snapped when I was trying to bend the damned frame back in place, and funny bit is the frame was supposed to be flexible.
So yes, a lot of wonderful things has been happening to say the least here lately. And why I haven't updated much. Go Figure eh?
